Learning to belay is an important part of the climbing experience at the Texas State Climbing Center or outside at any natural cliff face. These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the climbing wall.

This clinic costs $5 for Non-Climbing Center members.
This clinic is free for Climbing Center members.

Travelling to the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area found right in our backyard, we will explore the unique Pink Granite Batholith located in the Llano uplift area of central Texas. After an early departure to beat the crowds, we will summit the dome, hike a variety of trails and explore the caves around Enchanted Rock. This trip will be topped off with a stop in Fredericksburg for dinner and exploring the local culture! Click here for more information

No Thanksgiving Break plans, and looking for an adventure? Consider participating on our trip to one of the most beautiful places in the state of Texas.

Spent predominantly in the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, we will backpack close to 19 miles navigating the remarkable South Rim as well as the highest point in the park, Emory Peak. If you have never hiked this trail or been to Big Bend National Park, it is not one to miss!

Top Rope Belay Clinic

These clinics teach participants about equipment, knots, climbing skills, belay technique, catching falls, and lowering climbers; all with plenty of practice. 

Participants who have completed a workshop must then complete a free Belay Skills Assessment to belay independently at the Climbing Center.

Lead Climbing

This intermediate class builds on topics discussed in the Belay Clinic. The Lead Climbing Clinic will consist of one 4-hour session focusing on the systems and skills required to lead climb in an indoor setting.

Participants will learn how to lead belay, catch lead falls, clip quickdraws, and how to fall safely while lead climbing.

Prerequisites:

  • Climbing Center Belay certified, and able to confidently climb on top-rope at the 5.9 level without falling.

 

Introduction to Rock Climbing

Learning proper climbing movement and technique can make your time at the wall more enjoyable and help prevent climbing injuries.


These clinics teach participants about holds, spotting, climbing technique, center of gravity, and equipment; all with plenty of practice.
